April #SQLChat with Idera

Every month Idera Software hosts a Twitter event titled “#SQLChat”.  They tweet out around 8 to 9 questions to that hashtag and people respond with their answers, and then begin engaging in conversation around the topic.  They have a host with each event to help promote, moderate, and help drive the topics.  This month, I was afforded the opportunity!  Wow!  I was shocked and humbled when I spoke with Idera about the idea that I had and they reached out and informed me “That is a great idea, how does April sound?”.  Well,  I said it would not be a problem and that I would do my best!

The topic for the chat was: Career Satisfaction in the DBA workspace.  This is something I have the utmost passion about.  If I hated my job, there is no way I would be able to continue doing it every day for the next 30 years.  That doesn’t mean that there aren’t days that I want to just walk out of the office and drop my keys/laptop/phone at the door(mic drop) and move on.  I have a great support system in my office,  a GREAT boss and strong team helps me remember that it could always be worse.  Seriously, listen to some of your friends complain about their jobs, you may want to reconsider your path, or you might say “Hey, I don’t have it so bad!”

Overall, this #SQLChat was one of the best that I have seen.  There was so much participation from SO MANY people.  I locked myself in the conference room on my floor, put on my headphones, opened tweetchat, and just began monitoring the hashtag, answering questions, engaging people, making jokes, etc.  I had such a great time,  and it really helped me get to know some folks better.  I got to see many different view points, lots of peoples values, and see that most of us agreed on why we continue to be active in this community, to help others!

In closing, I want to express thanks to Idera for giving me the great opportunity to host this SQLChat, I had a blast!  I also need to thank ALL of you that contributed to the conversations, helped me promote the chat, or helped me stay sane leading up to it!  I have included some of the posts below!
